This presentation will start with a description of CRM principles and its benefits. It will then focus on the how multi-disciplinary simulation sessions can be used to increase the likelihood of real-time application of CRM principles and the utilization of cognitive aids. A basic introduction to simulation principles and design will be provided and the presenters will share their experiences of using simulation to change patient safety culture and promote the use of CRM and cognitive aids.

Dr. Bair is an Assistant Clinical Professor in the University of Iowa College of Nursing and the Associate Program Director for the University of Iowa DNP Program in Nurse Anesthesia. She is the primary instructor of several anesthesia nursing courses and is also the Director of Anesthesia Nursing Simulation. She also currently practices anesthesia at University of Iowa Health Care.
