Michael Rieker is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Academic Nursing at Wake Forest School of Medicine. This department includes the nurse anesthesia program as well as a DNP program. Dr. Rieker holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Penn State University and a Master’s and Doctor of Nursing Practice degrees from Rush University in Chicago. His nearly 30 years’ experience as a CRNA include extensive clinical practice from university hospitals to solo practice and office settings across the country.
Dr. Rieker has been a renowned educator, maintaining the status of the CRNA program at Wake Forest among the top 10 in the country. He has led significant curricular design and implementation projects to ensure a high degree of educational quality in the program. His success as an educator led to his recognition as the AANA’s Program Director of the Year in 2016. Dr. Rieker has been an invited speaker in over 130 professional conferences, spanning 36 states, and 9 countries, through which he has taught over 16,000 CRNAs. He is active in state and national advocacy activities, including serving on the editorial board of the International Student Journal of Nurse Anesthesia. He has also served on the National Board on Certification and Recertification of Nurse Anesthetists.
Dr. Rieker brings a unique combination of knowledge and experience regarding testing theory and examination development, which will help faculty members as they implement exams in their programs.
