In a survey that evaluated the relationships between nurses, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), student registered nurse anesthetists (SRNAs), surgeons, surgical residents, anesthesiologists during the perioperative environment found that 75 percent of respondents have witness or was personally involved in disruptive behavior. This disruptive behavior included verbal abuse, physical harassment, and sexual harassment, among others. Workplace civility is an essential component of a healthy work environment. In healthcare, a healthy work environment allows for optimal patient safety and quality patient care secondary to staff’s physical and mental well-being. A culture that supports awareness of others helps decrease psychological stress, increase patient and staff satisfaction, enhance productivity, and reduce healthcare costs.
